Busy Afternoon with one more test under our belts...
Today Tony underwent his echocardiogram. A painless procedure, explained below.
Echocardiogram (Echo, 2D echo, cardiac ultrasound, echocardiography)
Definition:
An echocardiogram (often called "echo") is a graphic outline of the heart's movement. During an echocardiogram test, ultrasound ( high-frequency sound waves) that come from a hand-held wand placed on your chest, is used to provide pictures of the heart's valves and chambers and help the sonographer evaluate the pumping action of the heart. Echo is often combined with Doppler ultrasound and color Doppler to evaluate blood flow across the heart’s valves.
Your doctor uses the echocardiogram to:
Assess the heart’s function
Determine the presence of disease of the heart muscle, valves and pericardium, heart tumors, and congenital heart disease
We were VERY pleased when the echo-cardiographer said it was the best heart he'd seen all day! This is good! Tony will need good heart results to undergo chemotherapy.
From there, we headed over to get a bite to eat, before Tony's visit to the dentist. You see, last week while eating his morning bowl of granola.. a tooth fell out! Whoooops, and he swallowed it! So, today the doc sort of built a tooth on top of what was left of the old tooth. We'll deal with root canals and crowns at a later date!
Tony's home and resting, after a busy afternoon. Tomorrow morning, we're up at dawn to head over to the hospital for his last test, the PET scan.
That's it for now... more later
