THE CHILDREN ARE ALL GONE
and
WINTER IS CREEPING IN...

Before I launch into today’s update, I want you all to know that we’ve continue to be showered with email, snail mail, and phone calls of love and support. Today we received a call from Bishop Larry Maze, a man very VERY near and dear to our hearts!

The show of love from you all has touched Tony’s heart in ways you can’t imagine. It actually brings him to tears, thinking how many people care so deeply for him. Guess it’s time for the caretaker to learn how to be on the other end of the caretaking.

THANK YOU ALL

Some other amazing things have been happening. Megan and her brothers have formed a new and wonderful bond with each other. We hope to soon include our Abbey in the bonding process.

Update: Thai Bound

As a result of our shameless plug for Megan’s volunteer work, to date we’ve received commitments from a few wonderful people, enabling Megan to leave for Thailand, secure in the knowledge that she’ll not have to worry about how she’ll manage, financially. We’re still seeking contributions, so if you’re willing and able, we’d be most appreciative.

This past Friday, Megan and I tracked down Chris Martin, head of Public Health at WVU. He was kind enough to speak, at length, with us about the Masters of Public Health program at WVU. Hopefully, our Megan will return from Thailand and enter the program, here in Morgantown!

Update: iPod Fund

Fr. Tony’s ipod was ordered yesterday. We’re very excited that he’ll have this funky new electronic device, to help him manage the hours of chemo and bed rest that lie ahead. We still need to purchase the
headphones and a battery pack, as well as music, audio books and some movies, so contributions will be thankfully received.

Apologies:

Sorry for the money pestering… but, (sigh) medical bills are beginning to arrive, making it impossible to invest in the little luxuries of life.

Progress Report

Two days after surgery, and Fr. Tony is doing very well. So well… he’ll be taking the 10:30am service tomorrow morning! This morning we’ve been able to remove the bandaging, and he’s getting to take his first shower, post surgery! YAY! He was beginning to get a bit RIPE! Grin

The Children Have All Departed

Mark, Philip and Megan have all left, but they leave us with many fond memories to hold us over till their next visit. Megan returns in a couple of weeks, before she flies out of Pittsburgh, heading to Mae Sot. Mark or Philip will be returning for the first round of chemo, and Mark will be returning for Thanksgiving. They’re all being very good about staying in touch with the dad, including our dear Abbey, who was unable to be with us this past week, due to work. She hopes to come for a visit in a couple of weeks, and will help us see Megan off.

Our Glorious Surroundings

Aside from the obnoxious sound of neighborhood trees being trimmed back or taken down, we’re being provided with a grand autumn season. The temperatures have dropped, the leaves are changing, and the sun is shining! WV is a stunningly beautiful place to live.

How is school going?

Well… hmmm… Unfortunately, I had to bite the bullet and postpone my other pre-LPN class. While awaiting Tony’s recovery from surgery, I spoke with the head of the LPN program at MTEC, and he’s graciously allowing me to postpone my Math for Meds class till the spring semester. Under normal circumstances, I would have lost my payment for these classes, but he’s transferring my payment to the spring semester. Hopefully, we’ll have the chemo/treatment schedule worked out in such a way, that I can continue with my courses.

I am, however, sticking with my woodworking class! This is my treat, and my sanity keeping class. I’ve now had two evenings working with the lathe, and what a treat it is! The only difficult part is waiting an entire week between classes!

Have a glorious day
