BACK FROM THE BIG CITY: Fr. Tony Update:

Fr. Tony arrived back from NYC last Friday, and hit the ground running. He's been going full steam ahead for 9 days now. (Mon-Fri: NYC- Meetings and gatherings at headquarters of the Episcopal Church, and a meeting with our new presiding bishop, +Katharine; Sat: Meeting with Baptism families; Sun: Church services and 7 children baptised; Mon/Tues: Interim Clergy Meetings) Today he took a well deserved break. All in all he's held up very well. Next week we return to the cancer center for labs and a visit with our Dr. Craig.... aka St. Michael. grin

FR. TONY'S BEEN BLOGGIN'...

Trip to the big apple: Blog Entry- January 30, 2007

I spent last week in New York attending the January board meeting of NNECA; (The National Network of Episcopal Clergy Associations). We met at 815 on Tuesday and Wednesday and at the Church Pension Service’s office on Thursday. On Friday morning we met at the House of the Redeemer, where we had been lodged. It’s a wonderfully eccentric place, a town house built for a Vanderbilt relative: a mixture of palace, Victorian Hotel and monastery with some of the cheapest rates in Manhattan..

For many years NNECA has represented all the clergy of our church. The January meetings enable the board to meet with many of those in leadership. This year was no exception. The Presiding Bishop gave us a good deal of her time. I was impressed by her openness, her willingness to speak to us frankly and clearly and her sense of humor.

Our new Primate met in the NNECA board a cross-section of TEC as it is now, from “left” to “right”, from rural to urban, male and female, African American and white, Pittsburgh to El Camino Real.. She fielded questions about... CLICK HERE to read more.

GOINGS ON: Blog Entry.

So much seems to have happened during the week I spent in New York. I often find myself getting quite depressed but then the historian in me whispers that we’ve seen worse times in our collective memory as Anglicans. In the 17th Century Anglicanism was abolished, episcopacy sent underground –perhaps not a bad idea – and the Prayer Book banned..

During those sixteen years some remained in the church, or rather continued to worship as best they could in their parish churches and some met secretly, fearing the tramp of Cromwell’s soldiers. Some went secretly to the banned bishops for ordination, while others submitted to presbyteral ordination hoping for better days. It was a period of enormous intellectual and spiritual endeavor, which produced.... CLICK HERE to read on..

CLOSE CALL:

If you live in Morgantown, then you know we've been catching up on our delayed winter. Monday evening I was taking a back road to school, and well.... forgot that the road ahead of me made a sharp turn downhill and to the left. Needless to say, I made it over the hill, went to slow down a bit, and managed to NOT go "to the left".... Fortunately, there were no trees lining the side of the road, and no cliff! Phew! VERY close call!!! It was a fast and bumpy ride, and barely missed a big ditch by inches. Fortunately, I managed to put the car in 4WD, drop it into low gear, and get back on the road.... AND managed to make it to school on time, though my nerves were a bit frazzled!

BE CAREFUL OUT THERE ON THE ROADS!!!

BACK TO SCHOOL:

Some of you may recall I was attempting to return to school last fall. When we got the news of Tony's cancer, I dropped my classes... as my brain was unable to stay focused. Well, classes began this week. Attempt two at Math for Meds and Medical Terminology. All being well, I hope to get accepted into the LPN program this fall.

VARIOUS INSUNDRY THINGS

Parrot Prosthetics:

I've got parrots, and am involved on an African Grey mailing list. An interesting article was being discussed about a cockatoo whose legs were mutilated by a cage mate. Well, a local Vet decided to try and make things better by creating the first known pair of prosthetic legs for a parrot. Of course, they're rather crude looking, but the cockatoo seem to be making the best of it. You can read about it by CLICKING HERE. (scroll down the page for the full article)

Speaking of parrots... or birds in general. A few weeks ago I heard the annual outbreak of bird flu is hitting the Thai/Vietnam area. Megan's under strict instructions to watch herself, keep her hands washed at all times, and stay clear of the markets selling raw/live animal products. I'm sure she's not taken to living or sleeping with chickens, and eating raw foul, so all should be well. Scary stuff!

LADIES? Your input please...

I'm working on the handbags... and hope to have some finished soon. I'm in a bit of a quandry about the "name" I'll be selling them under. I started out with "ModPockets", but the more I think about it, the more that sounds like some kind of microwavable food. Hrumph. So, I've been working on some other names. If you wouldn't mind, I'd love your input... Pick the 3 you like best and email them to me? Please, please with sugar on top?

Things to think about when deciding on a name:

A. Should be catchy
B. Should have an available domain for the web
C. Should be easily remembered
D. Should convey what I'm selling (or at least raise one's curiosity)

The above said, I'd like to sell handbags, totes, purses..... handmade.... but, could eventually sell hats, scarves, jewelry, etc.... a thought to ponder in your decision.

The following names have a domain available. If you've got some other ideas, I'm all ears.

  1. www.art4wear.com
  2. www.artsybags.com (main logo would be "Artsy")
  3. www.femfinery.com ("fem" = feminine)
  4. www.femfestoon.com
  5. www.giltgarb.com
  6. www.begild.com ("begild": decorate with, or as if with, gold leaf or liquid gold)
  7. www.femphernalia.com (love the word paraphernalia- grin)
  8. www.femfrills.com
  9. www.fembellishment.com
  10. www.thegildedbag.com
  11. www.myfabbag.com
  12. www.jazzybag.com

Time for Tea... must run. Take care and stay warm, y'all.
