Show and Tell...
Great American Knit Out...
Warm Up America and Caps To The Capital...
and Baptisms this weekend...

Good day all. If you're looking for a Fr. Tony update.. there's nothing to tell, except that he'll be arriving in Pittsburgh this evening.

Show and Tell:

Last night I finished up the knitting projects and tossed them in the wash. Below are the finished pieces, ready for embellishing. This knitting/felting experiment is quite fun, although a bit time consuming.

I've attempted to create some instructions for how I did bag number one, if anyone is interested in trying this out. I'm no whiz at knitting, so all you need to do is be able to knit (or crochet) a long rectangle, and a couple of small rectangles.

Instructions: Basically you make a long rectangular shape, and as you're knitting/crocheting along, you can fold according to the diagram, as you work, to determine how big to go... remembering the original piece needs to be about 4 to 5 times bigger then the desired size of the finished piece.

Once you have your main piece done, you have to make two side sections and a handle. For added stability, I doubled up the yarn, knitting with two strands for these pieces. I then single crocheted around the edge of the main piece, side pieces, and handle/strap, then assembled the purse with a strand of yarn and slip stitches... then... off to the washing machine. Throw a couple of pairs of jeans into the wash with your knitted/crocheted pieces, set the wash cycle on hot water, and add a wee bit of dish soap. Toss it in the dryer, or air dry.

If you're just not up to knitting or crocheting, you can cheat. Buy yourself some thrift store, 100% wool sweaters, and chop them up, stitch them together, and toss them in the wash.

Almost forgot. You can click on any image in the blog, and the picture will increase in size, in another window.

Annual: Great American Knit Out... THIS WEEKEND

The biggest, FREE knit and crochet extravaganza is traveling to the biggest and most exciting retail venue in the U.S., Mall of America! The date: President's Weekend, February 17 and 18, 2007. After sponsoring Knit-Out & Crochet events since 1998 on the East and West Coasts, the Craft Yarn Council of America (CYCA) is taking its FREE consumer event to the Midwest for the first time and to one of the most exciting retail venues in the world.

Vickie Howell of HGTV's Knitty Gritty will be there, and I bet she'll be showing off her new line of organic yarns.

"Caps to the Capital" Initiative Aims to Engage Knitters and Crocheters in all 50 States. These two organizations plan to engage thousands of volunteer knitters and crocheters to help raise awareness about the need to do more to help babies in developing countries survive their first month of life. Once the caps - along with personal notes from knitters and crocheters across the country - are delivered to Washington, D.C., the caps will then be taken overseas to babies who need them in developing countries.

Warm Up America! (WUA!) is an organization made up of volunteers who create handmade afghan blankets, clothing and accessories to help those in need. These items provide warmth and comfort to people who have lost their homes, fled abusive relations, or are being cared for in hospices, shelters, hospitals, and nursing home.

Baptisms!!! Join the Celebration:

This Sunday there'll be 7 or 8 new baptisms at Becket. I hope you plan to attend, as this is a wonderful event, and oh so important to show our support to the family and friends of the newest members of the body of Christ.
