THE HOMECOMING:
After a very long day of wondering when Tony would be checking out of Ruby Resort, we finally arrived home around 5pm. Long day for Tony as he was expecting to bolt (slowly) around 9am. I was taught how to "pack" the two holes still open in his side (kinda yucky, I tell ya!), then we packed up all our misc. paraphernalia we'd accumulated over the past month, and dressed Tony for winter...... As Dr. Craig said a couple days before, "You arrived when it was still summer like, and now it's winter out. Time to go home!"
The pups and parrots were pleased to see daddy home again, though we had to curb the excitement a bit while pups wanted to jump all over him. Got Tony situated in his recliner, remote in his hand, and all was well with the world..... aside from a sore bottom and left rib cage. After getting him situated, I left for the pharmacy to get his legions of RX filled. Half of Morgantown must be ill! The pharmacists were working at lightning speed pace filling ooodles of prescriptions. I tried to stay clear of any coughing, wheezing and sneezing folk.
With the help of a walker, Tony's able to get around the house just fine. He had a nice big baked potato for dinner, clearly much better then the rock hard potatoes he was served at the resort. By 10pm he was tucked into bed with a good book and slept well most of the night.
This morning Tony and I slept in till about 8:30am. He made the mistake of taking his pain pills before eating, which upset his stomach. Once that was over, he ate his usual breakfast of granola and a cup of tea.
Today was shower day. Tony had been looking forward to a shower for weeks! Not the easiest task in the world, but we managed to get it accomplished, with the help of a rail I installed on the tub, and his shower chair. The first thing he insisted on doing was trimming his beard, which had grown out quite a bit during his Ruby holiday. Of course, a shower wouldn't be complete without our Ruby keeping watch over daddy from the shower curtain rod. grin
Image below will give you an idea of what "packing" is all about.
Shower completed, (ahhhhhh) bottom lubed and anointed (still working on healing lovely bed sore) then time to remove bandages and packing, and carefully repack the open wounds. They'd told me to pack about 1/2"-1" of packing tape into the wound, but I swear the tape I removed as INCHES long. Ewwww! The packing is put in to wick any ooozing fluids, and help prevent infection (I think). The whole procedure must be done with an attention to sterility. Good thing I'd learned about "sterile techniques" in school. (Thank you Esther!)
3 day old pain patches removed, new one in place, and warm clothes on..... our Tony was a new man! As I sit here blogging, he's sitting in his recliner with computer, saying his office and reading through emails.
Time to get lunch ready, and try to begin sorting through all the NEW clutter piled up in the living room, brought home from Ruby Resort. Much to do.... as the old saying goes,
Will keep you posted.
