Ahhhh..... life in the hospital...
Monday, November 27, 2006: Day 2+ in Ruby Memorial
Let's see... where to begin. Yesterday Tony's fever returned, up to 102 f. again. But, from 10pm till this morning when I arrived, his temperature had remained normal. Still no mushrooms growing in the culture dishes, but Dr. Craig suspects either the PIC line or something possibly in the lungs. Swelling in the right hand continues, so an ultra sound was done. No blood clots. So, could be the PIC line. Finally, by around 4pm the doctors removed the PIC line. Tony was beginning to feel very cold again, so we're not sure if that was a sign his temperature was attempting to climb again, but doc says Tony won't be released till fevers have subsided.
On the side lines
While sitting in the hospital with Tony, I've been trying out some new crochet hat patterns. Might possibly have some sellable items soon, I hope. When Tony was taken down for his ultra sound, the techy guy commented that if I made PJs like Tony's, to sell, I could make a fortune. Hmmmmm.... new million dollar idea? You see, because of the PIC line, I had to cut his PJs from the neck opening, down to the arm opening, and stitch on a strip of snaps. It's far easier to get PJs on when you have snaps... otherwise, it's quite an act to get an IV line through the arm and neck of PJs. Must try out this new idea... Ebay... here I come!
Hospital Hrumphs!
I'm trying very hard to be a good girl! Honest I am, BUT... it's darned difficult to keep one's cool when things aren't being done as they should, OR when you find the room your family member is staying in... well, isn't quite as "clean" as it should be. I mean, really!... chemo patients are supposed to be in very clean surroundings. Today, we discovered that the toilet had clearly NOT been cleaned well, since who knows when. I very gingerly brought the dirtyness of the floor, and ickyness of the toilet, to the attention of someone, and she said she'd have it taken care of. The cleaning lady arrived lickity split, and spent less then 2 minutes... mopping the floor and cleaning the toilet! 2 minutes! You'd think while she was looming over the toilet, she would have noticed that the toilet roll was not even on the holder? Nope! I won't go into the other matter of not enough vitals being taken, or, or, or..... Hrumph. I'm thinking... I just may take my cleaning supplies with me and do the job myself. Better for me to do it without anyone knowing, then have someone treat Tony less then they should, because someone didn't do their job properly, and got miffed that it was pointed out to them, aye? OK... soapbox is back under my computer... grin
Came home for an hour or two, in order to get hospital PJs washed and dryed, to return to me ole hubby. Started on a new idea for a handbag, caught up on some email, and let the birds out for a bit. Had an interesting email from a gal with a White Capped Pionus, like our JJ, but a female. She's looking for a new home for her Pionus, and this just might be the answer to our JJ's prayers. You see, of late he's becoming quite too fond of his bell toy. I won't go into details, except to tell you that when I hear the bell ringing these days... I'm tempted to leave the room, so JJ can have some PRIVACY! OY!
Must round the livestock up, and get back to hospital. More later. PitterPat
