Thursday- 5:30pm UPdate:
5am: Awoke by phone... "chest tube torturists coming in 45 minutes, please come soon", was the call I got from Tony, so up and in the shower I go.... dress and head to the hospital.... Still dark, Starbucks not open, FAR too early for any human being to be awake.
6am: "torturist" (Thoracic specialist) hasn't shown to rearrange tubes. I'm convinced there's been a GPS attached to me so they know when the gatekeeper is on deck. Tony and I nod off for a bit.
7-9am: Various specialists and their minions visit to check on Tony and see how he's doing. All very kind, but have no clue what direction we're going. Thoracic specialist's assistant informs us that not much fluid has drained from lungs. Awaiting word on when/if there will be surgery.
Tony resting fairly well. Some chest pain. Eating soft food. BP good. Pulse good. Catheter out, and body functions seem to be working normally.
10am-noon-ish: Thoracic surgeon's assistant reports other specialist has made the decision they want Tony to continue on antibiotics till they've run their course, BEFORE considering surgery. Not sure how long "the course" is. Still waiting......
12:30pm: After expressing concern (kindly and cautiously) about lack of exercise, we manage to get Tony up for a walk down the hall.... 86 feet, I believe, according to the ceiling tiles. While getting him situated in bed, I notice a large dark purple area on his back side!!!!! Good Grief, a possible bed sore so soon? Brought this to the attention of P.A. who said he'd "order" turning every hour, etc. (of course, nothing was ordered, or else orders were not followed through with)
1-2pm: Pastor Matthew comes to pay Tony a visit.
Abbey, Megan and I head out for lunch and to see Abbey off to NC.
2pm-4pm: Still working on getting someone to take a look at Tony's back side. No one has come to turn him, so taking matters into our own hands. Fruit cup and Gatorade for lunch. Right lung biopsy is negative.
Evalutation of information to this point:
Tony will be riding out the coming days with chest tubes, as he finishes course of antibiotics. When or if surgery will occur is still unknown, recommended by one, not recommended by another. What to do!
5am wake up call catching up to me....
